In addition, during testimony on March 11, 1966, Jose Luis Gonzalez Gallarreta mentioned a CIA operative Streit (phonetic) approached Arnol Rodriguez in Madrid. Streit is fairly close to Sirett. Gonzalez Gallarreta also mentioned Jim Noel in his testimony as being chief of the CIA in Madrid. Furthermore, Streit was mentioned in another part of the file, and it stated that Streit should read Ray.

Sirett. A general discussion ensued regarding information he had accumulated re Communism in Cuba. 2. SUBJ plans contact Charron on 28 July for further discussion prior publication article. C/S Comment: *Request HAVA give SUBJ any reasonable assistance to successfully complete his mission, which to get on the spot info re subjects of interest to executive members of Research Institute of America."
01/15/60: Cable from Havana to Director: "1. Station plan, subject to concurrence of ODUNIT (U.S. Air Force) attache upon return from mobile end of week, is as follows: A. ODUNIT attache plane is scheduled to fly several boxes of station files and recordak equipment to Homestead air base Florida on 18 January. ETD 0900 hours ETA Homestead 1030 hours. In addition plane crew Paul Sirett and Mr. Nick Zubon, KUSODA (CIA Office of Security) official, will accompany plane...C. On morning 18 Jan Merton will drive AMCLATTER-1 to home of ODUNIT attache. AMCLATTER-1 is staying at safehouse in Merton's apartment building. AMCLATTER-1 will then chauffeur ODUNIT attache, his copilot and Merton to plane side at Campo Libertad. Upon arrival at plane side AMCLATTER-1 will go aboard and remain out of sight either in cockpit area or toilet of plane. No problem envisioned in his boarding plane this manner as plane parked away from buildings and other planes. D. Sirett and Zubon will arrive simultaneously. As soon as boxes are loaded aboard plane door will be closed and plane taxi to air strip and take off..."

11/18/60: Dispatch from COS, Habana to Chief, WHD: "1. Items A and B which are attached are being submitted to Headquarters for information and retention, and whatever internal (KUBARK) distribution is deemed appropriate. 2. Item A is a typewritten letter addressed to Manuel Ray Rivero and signed by 'R. Barquin.' The signature does not appear on the copy. Item B is a penciled note and contains comments relative to Manuel Ray's declaration. 3. The original documents were forwarded to the writer by AMPALM-2 via ODACID (U.S. State Department) channels, requesting that they be held until AMPALM-2's return to Havana. Apparently the documents are for delivery to Manuel Ray, and will be held by the Station as requested, even though they may be valueless at the time of AMPALM-2's return. Paul F. Sirett."

Manolo Ray sent Olien message via AMREEF-1 to Paul F Sirett who returned HAVA from MASH on 28 Nov that he anxious see Olien or 'someone designated by him' at earliest possible moment. No indication received as to reason for requested meeting. Message stated Manolo could be located 1938 N.W. 3rd Street, Miami or meeting could be arranged by calling 'Ramiro' (Handwritten: Estevez Beniz (?) at Franklin 3-5813, Miami. 2. Above for info HQs and MASH and any action they may deem appropriate."

Black hair, brown eyes, 5 foot nine, 160 lbs, fair complexioned. Assigned crypto number 116-1. 2. Request priority POA on Antonio Gerardo Valdes-Rodriguez (Unintelligible) born 24 Sept 1927 Havana. Neurosurgeon, black hair, brown eyes, 5 foot eight, 190 lbs. Studied medicine Univ Michigan 1955 to 1956, interned Jewish hospital of Brooklyn June 56 to Feb 57. Selective service card number 20 83 27 1334. Member 30 Nov group HAVA. Socialist but anti-Communist. Assigned crypt number 117-1. 3. Request priority POA on Dr. Antonio Acosta Borges born 20 in Havana. Finger printed for U.S. visa 11 Sept 1956. Acosta is medical inspector on HAVA waterfront with access all shipping. Assigned crypt number 16-21. 4. Station has no derog traces on above."
12/30/60: Cable from Havana to BELL (Sirett Acting): "1. Station received phone message from AMYUM-1 (Lino Bernabe Fernandez Martinez) morning 30 Dec to effect Escambray drop called off. 2. Night 29 Dec CO met with AMRUNG-1 (Rogelio Gonzalez y Corso) who had no info re planned drop and unable locate AMYUM-1 to confirm. Assume AMYUM-1 already passed above thru AMPANIC-14. 3. On basis assurances given ref AMYUM-1 planning proceed Escambray ASAP to arrange drop within several days. C/S Comment: *Hqs. wanted confirmation with AMYUM/1 (2) and AMRUNG/1 (3) that drop in Escambray was requested through AMPANIC/14 (4) will be executed at 2300 hours local, 30 December."

GONZALEZ GALLARRETA: It is not difficult; I do not believe it was difficult. QUESTION: Do you remember whom the CIA contacted?
