Pseudonym: Rancifer, Timothy
A dispatch on October 12, 1959, from Timothy K. Rancifer, acting either as Chief of Station (COS), Sao Paulo, or someone under the COS, contained the slugs REDWOOD (action indicator for the Soviet/Eastern European Division) and AEACRE (mechanism for the planning and conduct of REDSOX operations via a Domestic Operations Base (DOB) used for the interrogation, assessment, training, briefing, and preparation for dispatch of agents for infiltration into the USSR).
A dispatch on March 7, 1960, from David C. Higby, acting either as COS, Sao Paulo, or someone under the COS, stated that "in connection with paragraph 2 of reference, effective immediately it is requested that letters sent to Timothy K. Rancifer for insertion in the local mail system be sent instead to the following address..."
An undated document on David Tzitzichvili mentioned the name of Paul Maggio with "Rancifer (live)" handwritten to the right. In addition, a series of letters from Bob (probably Robert P. Hache) to Paul (probably Maggio) mentioned posting letters. Therefore, Timothy K. Rancifer was probably a pseudonym for Paul Maggio.
