Pseudonym: Manolin
E. Howard Hunt, Give Us This Day (Arlington House, 1973), p. 11
About early 1961: Manolin Hernandez is defined as "Acting Chief of the MRR during Artime's absence." At p. 154: "Justo Carrillo's continued absence from Frente meetings where he was represented by his nephew, and Manolin Hernandez's substituting for Artime/AMBIDDY-1 gave me the opportunity to propose (the election of Miro Cardona/AMBUD-1) to the Executive Committee. I did not, of course, make the recommendation out of the blue, but canvassed the other members beforehand. Only (Tony Varona/AMDIP-1) express reservations, and these were based on Miro's links to Manuel Ray/AMBANG-1. I said this might conceivably prove a good thing, that Miro might exert a gravitational effect on Ray and persuade the MRR to join the Frente on the same terms as all other groups. Tony quickly accepted my thesis, and Miro's election was unanimous."
5/2/61 cable from JMWAVE to BELL, WAVE 6002: Jose Manuel Hernandez aka Manolin, acting spokesman for MRR, "checking in at the Hangar Hamilton Hotel where Rasco (AMWAIL-5, head of MDC) now staying." Nellie Hamilton was the manager of this roominghouse for anti-Castro mercenaries that William Turner and Warren Hinckle wrote about at length in their book Deadly Secrets.
