08/24/60: Dispatch from COS, Habana to Chief, WHD, Chief of Base, Santiago de Cuba; Chief, JMASH: "Attached is a list of 'responsible people' in the MDC in Oriente Province. It was given to AMCREW-1 by Jose 'Pepin' Fernandez Badue, the National Coordinator, for passing to the MDC in Miami. The original and a thermo-fax copy as well, has already been sent to JMASH by courier."

104-10271-10052: CABLE: 19 AUG ( ) REPORTED NEW INTERNAL COORDINATING MDC

08/31/60: Cable from Havana to Director: "19 August AMCREW-1 reported new internal coordinating MDC in Cuba is Jose 'Pepin' Fernandez, originally from Santiago de Cuba and once active in Catholic Action. Resides in Havana and known by code name 'Lucas.'" Handwritten note states, "Pls see me", a well-known trademark of Bill Harvey's requests to his colleagues.

3/12/62 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "...(Jose Fernandez aka "Lucas") was the internal coordinator of MDC until June 1961 when took asylum Italian embassy. Was succeeded as MDC coordinator by AMBLESS-1...according AMBLESS-1 who arrived WAVE area Jan 1962 ("Lucas") attempting create dissension within MDC in (Cuba) by supporting his own personal followers unilaterally of internal coordinator Magnus Moreno."

11/3/61 memo from SAC, Miami to Director, FBI, Changed: Jose Lucas Fernandez Badue: "This title is being changed to reflect Subject's middle name as Lucas. The title was previously carried as Jose Fernandez Badue. "...the original complaint made against Subject was an attempt by one faction of the MDC to discredit Subject. Subject is a member of the Revolutionary Council and exerts full control and leadership over the MDC. He is well-regarded in the anti-Castro movement."

1963: The CIA analyzed the Lucas faction of MDC. Concluded "faction has been inactive since losing CRC monetary support following Jose Miro Cardona's resignation from that body."

3/16/79 memo from Scott Breckenridge to Robert Blakey, informing him that the CIA ok was continuing to sanitize documents, including the name of "Pepin Fernandez Badue" from any mention in HSCA reports.
