Pseudonym: Geidel, Mike
Warren Guertler was the case officer of AMYUM-19 in April of 1964. Therefore, it is probable that Geidel was an alias used by Guertler.

A-1 (Manuel Artime Buesa) was advised that during the operational phase AMYUM-19 (Cesar Baro Esteva) must be available to either Mike or the Consejo at all times. We will not accept any excuses should we wish to contact A-19 and are unable to do so. A-1 stated that A-19 will be on sail. 5. ADELAIDA to depart from Disneyland on its first operation on 11 April at 1500 hours (local time, which according to A-1 is one hour less than Washington time). 6. A-1 requested the Consejo supply him with more detailed maps of the city of Playa Giron for Rafael Alvarez. A-1 was told we would check into the matter. Today AMYUM-19 is to give Mike Geidel (A) complete schedule for first operation, e.g. ETD, course of ship, etc. 7. The undersigned advised A-1 we would like to talk to him by telephone tomorrow after we talk to Carl concerning final aspects of the operation."

04/14/64: Contact Report # 57 from Warren K. Guertler: OPERATION: AMWORLD. CONTACT: AMYUM-19. TIME AND PLACE: 1500-1630, 13 Apr. 64, S/H: ..."5. The Case Officer told A-19 that the Consejo had learned that Captain Reinaldo Blanco and Gustavo de los Reyes may wish to contact AMBIDDY-1 and that they might prove useful and should be given a hearing. A-19 replied that Blanco had been trying to see him for two weeks but that he had been stalling because he did not know what he could do with him at this stage of the project. The Case Officer recommended that he should be given a chance since he might prove useful in the future. A-19 said that he would get in touch with him..."

05/11/64: Memo for the record from Raul J. Hernandez, WH/SA/SO/HH: SUBJECT: Telephone Conversation between Mike Geidel and Martin Ferrer: DATE: 8 May 1964 at 1030 hours: "1. The undersigned reminded Mike Geidel that it is essential that AMBIDDY-1 (Manuel Artime Buesa) meet with 'Rodemeyer' (probably Earl Williamson) when the former returns to Miami. 2. Mike stated that Yergo (MRR Dominican Republic delegate) had received a telephone call from President Reid or some other high official in the Dominican Republic which stated that President Reid would like to meet with AMBIDDY-1 on 12 May in the Dominican Republic. Yergo was also informed that they could have anything they wanted in the Dominican Republic. 3. Martin next brought up the subject of the MID. It was Geidel's impression that this organization might be nothing more than a provocation. This opinion is also shared by JMWAVE. Mike commented that AMYUM-19 (Cesar Baro Esteva) has met with members of this organization who for the most part are unwilling to return to Cuba. A-19 would like to test their mettle before negotiating with them any further. A-19 intends to give this organization some sabotage materials and see what happens."

05/20/64: Memo from Henry Hecksher, WH/SA/SO/HH: AMWORLD MEETING IN WASHINGTON, D.C. 19 MAY 1964: SUBJECT: AMBIDDY's Personnel Policy: ..."6. AMJAVA/4 (Rafael Quintero) claims to have a closer relationship with AMBIDDY-1 (Manuel Artime Buesa) than does AMYUM-19 (Cesar Baro Esteva)...'There are some things which you Beckhoff (Henry Hecksher) tell Guertler, then Guertler tells AMYUM-19 who tells AMBIDDY-1, which it would be better to tell AMBIDDY-1 direct.' AMJAVA/4 related that AMBIDDY-1 took umbrage at AMYUM-19 for conveying to him Beckhoff's views about the Miami press conference. AMBIDDY-1 was furious when Guertler passed intelligence about the alleged presence of 50 cal. machine guns positioned near Pilon, because he considered this an implied attack on the soundness of the Pilon plan which AMBIDDY-1 himself had drawn up...10. Beckhoff commented as follows: AMYUM-19 will have to tell Guertler or myself if in a given instance a personal demarche is indicated...We have no choice but to tell Guertler to tell AMYUM-19 who, however, should feel free to counsel us not to use him as a channel. Headquarters rep conceded that AMBIDDY-1 could rightly resent anything which smacks of a junior officer (i.e. Guertler) giving orders to him via AMYUM-19, an impression we would do our best to eradicate..."
