104-10193-10324: CABLE: IN RESPONSE STA RQMT LEVIED ON AMCALL-1 8 DEC. A-1 PROVIDED FILL SITREP TO BINIARIS VIA LIVE DROP

12/10/60 cable from Havana to Director: Handwritten marginalia states: "Project AMCALL - Joventud Obrera Catolica - has become labor arm of MRP." AMCALL-1 is identified as chief of the labor arm of MRP. Memo states that Rogelio Cisneros had replaced Manuel Ray as chief of the MRP; that Angel Cofino had been the former chief of the labor arm of the MRP but was replaced because he was considered a "Mujalista". (Union leader Eusebio Mujal was pro-Batista in the 1950s - see https://isreview.org/issue/112/fidel-castro/index.html). The November 30 Movement was disintegrating - leaders such as Luis Moreno of the Tobacco Workers Union were joining the MRP. MRP leaders included Heriberto Fernandez in Camaguey; Gaston Riera in Matanzas; Eduardo Garcia in Habana. MRP leader Elio Jorge in Las Vilas had recently been arrested. AMCALL was publishing two clandestine newsletters, Antorcha Obrera and Obrero Libre. Station was supporting Project AMCALL with 1700 pesos monthly, passed by Gordon Biniaris/James O'Mailia to AMCALL-1/Reynoldo Gonzalez.
