DOB: 1897. POB: Florence, S.C. DOD: Friday, 1/7/77. Helped form The Flying Tigers. Ambassador to Peru in 1945 and Ambassador to Brazil during 1946-1948. Organized Cuban national airline in Havana in 1929; it later merged with Pam Am Airways. Returned to Washington in 1951 and served as special assistant to the Secretaries of State and Defense. Part of Operation TILT, known as the Bayo-Pawley Affair, on June 10, 11, 12, 1963. Killed himself Friday, January 7, 1977, at age 80. In August 1960, Pawley planned to sell Miami Transit Company to Dade County (MMF 2261).
