DOB: Aug. 3, 1918; POB: New York City; DOD: Sunday, March 7, 1999; POD: Washington, VA, at age 80. In 1942, he married Margaret Moore who had been born in India to Presbyterian missionaries. Gottlieb joined the CIA in 1951. He ran MKULTRA from the time of its establishment in 1953. Survived by wife and four children: Penny Gottlieb Chesluk, Rachel Gottlieb Samoff, Peter Gottlieb and Steven Gottlieb. Code-named "Joseph Scheider" for Lumumba assassination plot.
