Nov. 22, 1963, he was assigned to security detail at Market Center. His regular beat at the time was the evening relief for Officer J. D. Tippit. In 1964 he was promoted to detective in the Youth Division. In 1966, he was named lieutenant. In 1970, he was promoted to captain of the crimes against persons. He later became deputy chief of the criminal investigation division. He retired from the Dallas police department in 1985 and was hired as Police Chief by the University Park Police Department the same year. Retiring from University Park Police Department January 31, 2000. He and his wife, Dorothy, have one son, Doug. DOD: Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Dallas Baylor Hospital from complications from Devic syndrome, a disease similar to multiple sclerosis. Died at age 65.
