Re 1966: "Below are illustrative traces Herbert Itkin (201-836808), partner law firm Itkin, Roberts, Greenbaum, New York, registered agent for 'Haitian Government in Exile' representing Louis Dejoie (201-240483) and other Haitian exile groups 1963. Reportedly furnished money to group invading Haiti August 1963...(Itkin's) former father-in-law called WODISH, New York, to say (Itkin) closely tied to BKCROWN, giving it much assistance Haiti and elsewhere, implying (Itkin) trusted informant or agent, not staff employee. Warned BKCROWN (Itkin) not desirable because of doubts re reliability, discretion, ability to meet financial obligations, and mental equilibrium. (WODISH memo, 15 Feb 1966). New York Times, 9 March 1968, reported US official described (Itkin) as undercover agent who infiltrated organized crime, reporting regularly to (FBI). One high official said (Itkin) risked his life to 'stand up to Mafia'. Article also states (Itkin) registered Sept 1963 as foreign agent (of the Dominican Republic), making numerous trips there...New York Daily News, 15 Oct 1968, reported (Itkin), labor lawyer, trying have his trial moved from state to federal court, contending he acting as (FBI) and (CIA) agent in connection (with James L. 10/9/67 memo from Marguerite Stevens to Chief, SRS: "...(a) 5 June 1967 memorandum enclosed copies of several 1963/1964 documents from the Chicago Field Office's file on (Richard) Cain, which ADC/PSD forwarded to SRS with the comment that "it appears DCS is cleaning out their files re Lee Harvey Oswald, et al." At p. 4: "(Richard Cain) was...of interest to the DCS in September 1963, when an ad hoc clearance was requested to permit his being asked to respond to general requirements regarding his knowledge of certain Cuban refugees and their potential for foreign positive intelligence. On 10 September 1963, the DCS was sent a memorandum which furnished much of the above information on Cain...on 25 May 1967, the DCS advised that there had been no contact with Cain since 1963, and furnished copies of eight reports for which (Cain) had been the source of information. These had to do with anti-Castro Cuban activities, procurement of arms. etc. On 29 May 1967, Security advised the DCS that there is a current FBI investigative interest in (Cain) and recommended that there be no further contact with him at this time."
