Cryptonym: UNCAIRD

Return to Main Crypts Page

Definition:
UNCAIRD was probably the cryptonym for UNESCO.
Status:
Probable
Discussion:
A cable on June 8, 1978, stated that "(HSCA) has delivered a list of Agency personnel whom it wishes 'to be made available for deposition.' List contains name of Thomas B. Casasin (P) (IDEN)...2. Records indicate that Casasin (Jacques G. Richardson) retired from service some years ago, but that as of 1976 was continuing to reside Paris, was working at IDEN B, and was in infrequent touch with station." In addition, another cable the same day stated that Identity A was Jacques Richardson and Identity B was UNESCO.

A cable from Paris on June 13, 1978, stated that "Thomas P. Cassasin is still in Paris and employed at UNCAIRD in the scientific section." Therefore, UNCAIRD was probably UNESCO.

06/01/72: Cable from Paris to Director (Rilander Acting): Action Unit: C/EURS: Slugline RYBAT ADMIN PERS TOPSY WODEEP WOGAME: REF: DIRECTOR 271979: "1. Appreciate ref action which will help avoid any security problem for Casasin (Jacques G. Richardson). Re para two ref there is no chance that UNCAIRD will query federal records center directly. UNCAIRD conducts no applicant investigations itself. Security clearance for American applicants is U.S. Govt, not UNCAIRD, requirement. Therefore, believe unnecessary to take any further action to backstop prior employment. Only requirement now is for routing report from civil service commission indicating favorable security determination for (handwritten: Richardson, Jacques). 2. No file."

He is not given any requirements to do this nor does he receive any remuneration. He of course knew Edwin W. Hauronic (P) to be RTACTION staffer. Station records indicate that Cassasin's contract was terminated on 30 June 1976."
