He was an involuntary militiaman until July 1961 when he left the militia and was employed as a storekeeper by Lineas Mambisa until September 1962. From September 1962 until his departure from Cuba he helped his parents and worked as a self-employed brick mason and carpenter..."

For Paris: Victor Espinosa on return U.S. told ODURGE (U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service) and ODENVY (FBI) of AMLASH conspiracy; contacts with AMLASH-2 and 3, UNSNAFU-9, Mirrlees; criticism of CIA staffers at Madrid, including Growery; derogatory allegations on QUSPORT-1, QUSWIFT-1, AMWHIP-1, Mirrlees scare in accepting as serious joking recruitment by AMLASH-3 for Soviets; relationship at Paris among Bob, Dick, Maureen, Luis Fernandez, UNSNAFU-9; clumsy attempt use AMWHIP against UNSNAFU-19 who witting of AMWHIP ties with CIA; AMWHIP pocketing difference between CIA payments for jewelry and amounts given to UNSNAFU-19; generally inept handling by AMLASHES; needs of AMLASH-1 to vet prompt reply on CIA attitude toward him. 07/15/65, Cable from Madrid: Slugline PBRUMEN QUWEB: "1. Cuban refugee Jose Lopez Calo (born La Coruna, Spain 9 October 1907 who arrived Madrid 13 July reported following to QUWEB: A. During late June rumored Habana that attempt on Fidel's life had been made. On 1 July Raul Jorlen, official in Immigration Department MININT, said in conversation with source that about 21 June car usually used by Fidel was fired on in Vedado area killing five occupants. Fidel not present at time. B. During past two-three weeks GOC rounded up 140 employees Cuban Electric Company following alleged discovery of plot to blow up Tallapiedra Plant. One of above employees was source's neighbor arrested about 23 June at four A.M. 2. No further details known to source."
