"During this period (circa 1960-1961) Jose Luis (Gonzalez Gallaretta, QUHOPS-1) was the personal secretary to Odon ALVAREZ de la Campa, and traveled extensively throughout the Communist camp countries...in circa mid-1964, Jose Luis was assigned to serve as Odon ALVAREZ's secretary in the Cuban embassy in Madrid, Spain...in circa mid-1965, Jose Luis was recalled from Spain by the Government of Cuba as a consequence of the defection of Odon ALVAREZ de la Campa."

Back in Nov. 1960, Fidel Castro forced Reynol Gonzalez (AMCALL-1) to turn over his post as foreign relations secretary to Odon Alvarez. Alvarez's full name was Fausto Odon Alvarez de la Campa y Sotolongo. Gonzalez discusses how they were rivals, claiming Alvarez was a dedicated Communist who he did not trust. 7/15/65 memo: QUMALT-1 reported that in 1958, Quintin Pino Machado was a terrorist "throughout Las Villas province. (His) mother, Margot Machado (201-743324) was the Chief of the Action and Sabotage Section of the 26th of July Movement in Las Villas Province." In 1959 or early 1960 Quintin was appointed as a Cuban delegate to either to the United Nations in New York or the Organization of American States in Washington, DC.
