Unknown identity. A cable in October of 1964 described QUGROWL-8 as a "highly respected MRR member." Q-8 was female.

Discussion:
In the same cable mentioned above, Miguel de Leon - "Cucu" (AMWORM-1) requested that QUGROWL-8 serve as his local contact. According to the cable she was stalling him until given Station approval. AMWORM-1 appeared to be intent on cutting out the role of the Chief MRR representative in Spain, Enrique Tous, in the former's activities at this time. In addition, an undated document stated that Maria Juana Asuncion Comella (AMGLAD-1 widow) was the secretary of QUGROWL-8 (although the QU part was redacted).

10/05/64: Cable from Madrid to Director: Slugline RYBAT TYPIC MHAPRON AMLASH AMWORLD: "1. QUGROWL-2 requested urgent meeting with case officer 4 Oct. Said met with Miguel de Leon (aka: Cucu) 3 Oct which time de Leon revealed some details re plan of action aimed at overthrow AMTHUG Government. Following gist de Leon remarks: Present mission to make contacts among military leaders outside Cuba. De Leon going Paris 5 Oct order meet with (FNU) Sanz and 'Chichi' Quintero (chief asst to Artime) at Gran Hotel. Plans take Alberto Blanco (El Loco) with him. AMLASH-2 also involved but unknown if he going Paris. De Leon and Blanco will return Madrid 9 Oct. Group awaiting unidentified high mil officer leave Cuba order travel Paris for 'summit meeting' with Artime, which hopefully to occur by mid-November. Purpose would be coordinate action, including assassination AMTHUG followed by mil group to take place sometime Dec 64. (Station Comment: Presume mil leader AMLASH-1). Blanco has agreed accept assassin role. De Leon himself planning black entry Cuba to make necessary arrangements. Added that above mil officer may not be able return Cuba. 2. De Leon said he acting under CIA instructions. Said Sanz and Quintero received orders from CIA meet him in Paris, and not Madrid, due publicity given MRR following Sierra Aranzazu incident. QUGROWL-2 impression is De Leon mission possibly not CIA-sponsored, since de Leon had asked QUGROWL-2 for loan to pay air fares to Paris which QUGROWL-2 refused 'for lack funds.' De Leon finally got help from Gaston Godoy this regard. 3. De Leon has asked QUGROWL-8 (highly respected MMR member) serve as his local contact, however she stalling him until Station approval given. De Leon stressed he did not want Enrique Tous (Chief MRR rep Spain) become witting any aspects above plan. QUGROWL-8 meeting with de Leon today and will provide Station full report 5 Oct..."

12/28/64: Cable from Madrid to Director: Slugline PBRUMEN AMWORLD AMBIDDY-1: "1. AMBIDDY-1 left (Unintelligible) for Rome afternoon 28 December. He told QUGROWL-8 he had audience with Pope on 29 Dec, returning to MADR 30 Dec and leaves for U.S. by TWA on 31 Dec. 2. AMBIDDY-1 said he wanted to see AMLASH-1 who MADR staying at PBRUMEN (Cuban) installation but as far as QUGROWL-8 could determine meeting never took place."

12/31/64: Cable from Madrid to Director (Growery acting): Slugline KEYWAY PBRUMEN AMWORLD AMBIDDY 1 AMLASH 1 QUANTUM 51: "1. Early morning 30 Dec AMBIDDY-1 phoned Madrid contact saying QUANTUM-51 arriving Madrid morning 30 Dec and AMBIDDY-1 arrived Madrid from Rome afternoon 30 Dec. 2. QUANTUM-51 and wife arrived Madrid by air from NYC morning 30 Dec. 3. Some time prior 2030 on 30 Dec., according QUGROWL-8, AMBIDDY-1 had 2 hour meeting with AMLASH-1, details unknown. 4. According QUMALT, AMLASH-1 left for Paris 30 Dec. 5. AMBIDDY-1 had 2 hour meeting with QUANTUM-51 morning 31 Dec. No details available yet. 6. AMBIDDY-1 also known be in contact with AMLASH-2 and 3. 7. AMBIDDY-1 left for U.S. via two afternoon 31 Dec. 8. Two AMWORLD reps still Madrid. 01/08/65: Cable from Withheld: Slugline KEYWAY PBRUMEN: "1. Station pouching adrefs 11 January photocopy of 14 page document written by four Isle of Pines prisoner leaders, among whom AMYUM-1 and AMHINT-1. Cover letter signed by AMYUM-1 addressed only to 'Guillermo' who unidentified, requesting he present it to Interamerican Press Society, Human Rights Commission, OAS and UN. 2. Believe document contains extremely well written, highly informative and objective account of prison conditions, rehabilitation plan, mental and physical problems, etc. Also stresses its intent 'not a call for help, but a cry of defiance against Communist enemy.' Feel it has considerable propaganda potential worthy of HQs exploitation. 3. Document provided by QUGROWL-8 borrowed from QUANTUM-51, who handcarried to (REDACTION)."

01/26/65: Cable from Madrid to Director: Slugline RYBAT TYPIC AMWORLD AMLASH: "1. Manuel Artime and wife arrived Madrid 22 January from New York. Accompanied by his aides, Rafael Quintero Ibarbia and Antonio Sanz Acedo. QUANTUM-51 arranged Artime meeting with Alberto Martin Artajo, prominent Spanish political leader, and brother Javier Martin Artajo, connected with Madrid daily newspaper Ya Rpt Ya. Also met with Luci Carrero Blanco, minister, undersecretary of presidency. Asked Carrero use influence break relations with Cuba which refused. Afternoon 25 January Artime interviewed by local press, which to be published in newspaper Ya. Artime anxious see Franco but probably not be granted audience. 2. Miguel de Leon arrived Madrid 26 January. 3. Sanz left for Rome 26 January. Artime and Quintero planning go Rome 27 January, returning Madrid following day. Expects see person in Rome identified by code name 'Pablo,' who QUGROWL-8 thinks may be AMLASH-1. *Dissem per RYBAT TYPIC YOBITE AMWORLD cables."
