State Department visa clearance by cable 14 March. Has copy of letter from Dr. Jose Miro Cardona to Mr. Robert F. Hale, Director, Visa Office, State Department, dated 6 March. Letter requested non-quota immigrant visa and said Sorondo will leave Miami on mission involving organization of CRC in BOGO. 2. Subject has 201-288269. Born 25 May 1923, Havana, Cuba. Cuban passport 24453 expires 18 June 63. 3. BOGO has access to subject thru GIAFFORD-1 who says subject leaving for Miami soonest."

07/23/64: Dispatch from COS, JMWAVE to Deputy Chief, WH/SA: Page 2: "2. Colombia: a. Bogota: The AMSPELL team arrived in Bogota on 12 February 1964, but were unable to make contact with the local AMSPELL/AMBARB contact until the next day. They were unable to get adequate advance publicity and had trouble finding space for the exhibit. About 200 persons attended the exhibit, and AMSPELL conferences were attended by approximately 485 persons. HLBA-6911 GISNEAKER-9's observations on the local reaction to the tour, which he judged to be indifferent. The AMSPELL team freely admitted to WAVE that the Bogota operation was something less than successful, but blamed the lack of advance preparations and the existence of an unfriendly press for their failure. It should also be noted that the AMSPELL team was not on the best of terms with some of the local Cubans, and this fact probably had a good deal to do with the poor showing..."

On 10 April GISOY/GIJAY unit intercepted from Cuban mail pouch and gave Station two of the following propaganda items which will pouch to HQs on 16 April. 2. Approximately 102 envelopes arrived 10 April addressed to various Communist recipients in Bogota including Diego (Montana Cuellar), Tass Agency, Communist Youth of Colombia, Juventud MRL, Ediciones EurAmerica, Voz Proletaria, etc. Each envelope contained:...(B) Mimeographed note in Spanish 'on the occasion of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King we have published a dossier which we are right now circulating in all parts of the world..."

Could Juan look like Jose if latter wearing beard? 2. Also request immediate traces including physical description and present whereabouts Rolando Cubela Secades, number 170 mug book, Jose Angel Bustamante O'Leary, number 511 mug book, and Jacinto Vasquez de la Garza, number 628 mug book. 3. File: Defer."
