A dispatch in October of 1960 stated that DEBACON was Chief of Detectives, Venice and was "thoroughly acquainted (with the) Trieste picture."

03/17/65: Cable from Rome to Director (Rilander Acting): AMWHIP: REF DIR 92042: "MININT alerts go all DEPARK provincial offices, which also get hotel records. DEPARK rep Milan undoubtedly matched hotel registration with alert. Arranged get records of phone calls by A/1 from hotel, reported calls to DEBACON, who reported to Clarkson. 1961 correct. No known reason think alert instigated by competitor. Will not know reason for 1961 notice til Clarkson gets copy. No index."

Clarkson informed by DEBACON that AMWHIP/1 watchlisted FOLL Interpol report to Italians 2 Nov 51...that he charged by jewellers association Havana with illicit trade and theft together with one Ricardo Rivon and one Jose Garcia. 2. Index AMWHIP/1 201. *Requested clarification DEBACON report."

Undated: Cable from Rome to Director (Info: MADR, PARI, JMWAVE): Rilander Acting: Slugline KAPOK KEYWAY AMWHIP-1: "1. DEBACON told Clarkson 5 Mar that AMWHIP-1 (Carlos Tepedino Gonzalez) SUBJ of 1961 Ministry Interior alert notice. Suspected of 'contraband activities.' DEBACON asked for ODCOIL (Federal Bureau of Narcotics) traces A/1, was told to no local traces. 2. DEBACON info adds A/1 stayed hotel select Milan 6 Feb, when phoned Paris, ANJ 7400. DEBACON office San Remo reports this number of U.S. cultural attaché, 4 Avenue Gabriel, Paris. Three minute talk, which DEBACON says not recorded. A/1 also tried phone Miami 445605. No answer. 3. Clarkson asking DEBACON reason for MIN INT interest. Alert notices are sent all DEPARK and DESTART provincial offices. Clarkson will also try determine discreetly what action, if any, likely be taken on basis alert. Will not check INTERPOL for reasons security. 4. Since info passed officially, Clarkson would normally request traces ODCOIL HQs, pass results DEBACON. Any HQs objection doing so this case? 5. Index A/1."
