8/5/60 report by AMPANIC-7/Brand: "Brand had been asking to see Plinio (Prieto)/AMPANIC-5. Plinio had also been asking to see Brand. Amparo (Plinio's wife) knew about one of Brand's safehouses. She came one day and told him that Plinio needed to see him. Next day, Brand went to see Plinio. At Plinio's safe house, Brand also met a man named Juan Mendez, also known as George the Pilot or Jose (illegible) Casanova. Mendez was a member of a group named MAR (Movimento Anticomunista Revolucionario) Plinio told Brand of his efforts and how pleased he was with the way things were going on. Plinio also talked about his plans for the immediate future and the meetings he was expecting to have in the days to come..."

10/19/60 dispatch from Lowell Lunger, JMASH Base to Chief, Havana Base: "According to AMPANIC-1, (AMRUG-5/Victor Paneque, aka Commandante Diego) had been in contact with the anti-Castro forces in the Escambray area. (Paneque) stated that these guerrilla forces were broken down as follows: Frente Camilio Cienfuegos, whose chief was the late Captain Sinecio Watts...Second Front of the Escambray, led by Alfredo Pena and Commander fnu Antola. Another group, known as the Escambray Libre (EL), was preparing to go to the hills to join the Second Front. (Paneque) stated that Plinio Prieto was with the Second Front..."

2/25/61 memo from Justin Gleichauf, Chief, Miami CIA field office to Chief, Contact Division, Support: Re meeting with Tulio Prieto Ruiz: Tulio had been fighting with his brother Plinio Prieto in the mountains against the Castro regime. "Subject returned to the US in an unsuccessful attempt to obtain assistance for the remaining of Plinio's group still in the mountains."

3/26/61 report: "Background: Agents C-43, C-49, C-61, C-62, C-63, C-66, C-67, and C-71 were commissioned to mix with the crowd which attended the (demonstration) held this afternoon at the Bayfront Park Auditorium. Report:...The newspaper man known as JOALO introduced Norman Diaz, also a newspaperman, who was the sole speaker and organizer of the (demonstration)...among others, the following persons attended...Panchio Batista, Rolando Masferrer Rojo, Dr. Jose I. Rivero, Dr. Jose Ignacio Rasco, Dr. Jose Manuel Hernandez, Dr. Luis Conte Aguero, Dr. Arsenio Gonzalez, Dr. and Mrs. Radio Cremata, Dr. Gustavo Cuervo Rubio, Dr. Amadeo Lopez Castro, and Dr. Rafael Guas Inclan...approximately 5 to 7,000 persons attended the (demonstration)...(a photograph of Plinio Prieto Ruiz/AMPANIC-5, murdered leader of the Escambray, was distributed to the participants)."
