Under the cover name of the Defense Support Program (DSP), and quite possibly the code name Byeman, this new generation of space bird was to be the principal element in new generation of space bird was to be America's principal ballistic missile early warning system and, on a not-to-interfere basis, was to carry additional sensors, including, possibly, a SIGINT package. In mid-December 1966 the contract for the satellite was awarded to TRW, and the sensor kit went to Aerojet Electrosystems. Twenty months later, on August 6, 1968, the first of the series, designated DSP Code 949, was secretly shot aloft from the Eastern Test Range at Cape Canaveral..."

04-10128-10049 TERMINATION SECRECY OATH -- (DELETION) CLEARNACE IN THE (DELETION) SECURITY AND CONTROL SYSTEM FOR DAVID A. PHILLIPS

5/9/75, Termination Secrecy Oath signed by David Phillips. The oath required Phillips, among other things, to attest that "by virtue of my duties within the BYEMAN Security and Control System, I have been the recipient of information and intelligence which concerns the present and future security of the United States of America...I will never divulge, publish or reveal by writing, word, conduct, or otherwise, any information relating to BYEMAN activities, without the express written consent of the BYEMAN officer or his authorized representative."
