10/24/61 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "We, Omar (Rafael Quintero/AMJAVA-4), Monty (Juan Manuel Guillot Castellanos), German (Cesar Baro illegible, AMYUM-19) and Lazaro (Carlos Bandin) sat down for several hours discussing various doubts and interpretations. Francisco's (Gonzales illegible, Rogelio) post as national coordinator was filled after the latter's capture by direct nomination by Artime which divided the responsibilities between Pedro Pablo as national civil coordinator and Omar as national military coordinator. After the invasion Pedro Pablo entered the embassy. Omar went to jail and afterwards he also went to an embassy. The need to reorganize the movement called for both men to leave the embassy. (Omar took the role of Pedro and reorganized the MRR's executive board.) When Omar had finished this job he left Cuba with Monty in order to resolve the future general situation with allies and then return to Cuba...Monty will return to Cuba on the next trip and will explain the full details to the national executive. Monty will assume the position of military coordinator over there if he is accepted."

"On February 13, 1962, Cesar Baro advised that he is the head of the MRR, located at 244 Northeast 23rd Street, Miami, and he continues to be a member of the Cuban Revolutionary Council." Baro advised that Jose Ignacio Lasaga, a psychologist and a leader among Catholic lay people in Cuba and an MRR Board member in Cuba, had recently defected and would become a CRC representative working to build unity within the group.

Guertler: "Case officer passed AMYUM-19 instructions pertaining to the procurement of certain materials through a (CIA) proprietary company...case officer expressed his doubt that Angel Felix Yergo had accurately reported his conversation with Crimmins of (State Dept.) and asked A-19 if he knew what the motive could be...A-19 thinks Yergo wants to wreck the Central American venture (AMWORLD)...(Case officer) comment: Guertler would like to know what position to take re AMBANG-1 if A-19 asks about (US) backing. A-19 considers him part of a Kremlin conspiracy to put someone in power in place of AMTHUG-1/Castro. (Case officer) has so far taken the position that the AMYUMS are (CIA's) Chosen People but that if someone in (US) (possibly someone in ODACID/State Dept.) wants to encourage AMBANG-1 we should accept them as allies in the fight and worry about ideological differences later." Letter also adds that the contacts of Nacin Elias "are apparently so bad that A-19 is ashamed to show them. Nacin not only contacts everyone in sight but apparently will recruit total strangers on the basis of someone else's recommendation. A-19 knows some of Nacin's contacts and believes they have some potential as intelligence sources, but not much good for anything else."

Guertler received following information from AMYUM-19 on morning Nov 22 Amparo Godinez, owner of bar "Marquesa de Cuba", in Madrid heard former Cuban journalist Gaston Baquero tell one Canto (believed to be Rosendo (Canto) Hernandez, editor of Accion Cubana) that he had received letter stating GPIDEAL (JFK) would be killed that day."

Baro's faction is composed of friends and relatives from Palma Soriano, Oriente province. Baro...has recruited and placed on the MRR's 'juicy payroll' Individuals who are not liked by Artime or by the MRR. Baro exploits a weakness of Artime resulting from his intimate relations with Adelaida Padron y Cruz, who is said to have been the mistress of Fulgencio Batista Zaldivar and who is used by pro-Batista elements to infiltrate the MRR with 'Batistianos'."

10/16/64 memo from M.K. Holbik, IRD to Director of Security: "The staff employee in Miami who handled AMWORLD matters was Mr. Karl Rohrer. It is believed that most of Rohrer's contacts in Miami, on behalf of the Project, were with Dr. Cesar Baro, whose cryptonym was AMYUM-19. Baro, until a falling out with Artime, had been the number three man on the Project. It was this group that raided and devastated the sugar mill in approximately the spring of the year. To my knowledge, Project AMWORLD is the only Agency activity authorized by the White House to conduct sabotage operations against and in Cuba...To my knowledge, by Presidential request, no sabotage operations have been launched from JMWAVE since about the first of the year. I gathered that personnel at JMWAVE possessed certain ill feelings toward AMWORLD and toward Artime since it was the only operation that was allowed to conduct sabotage operations."
