104-10506-10028: MEMO: LATIN AMERICA DIVISION TASK FORCE REPORT OF POSSIBLE CUBAN COMPLICITY IN THE JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION

10/6/62 memo: AMWEE-1 on Sept. visit to Miami reported that on 11 September Cuban Army trucks delivered large trunks to house across the street from him (Nr. 116 Calle 18 Miramar, Havana) at that time occupied by a Chilean technician. From other activities in front of house, AMWEE-1 concluded that house was being used as an LP (listening post) target probably for the house of Cuban Supreme Court Chief Luis M. Buch who lived across the corner from AMWEE-1."

9/19/63 cable from COS, JMWAVE to Chief, SAS: "...word was sent to AMWEE-1 via OWVL on 11 September requesting he determine whether or not Identity A would be willing to act as intermediary to receive the AMLEO-3 family and AMLEO-2 into asylum at a specific time and date at the Mexican consulate...if the AMWEE-1 reply is favorable, then he will be told to arrange the meeting at the Mexican consulate between the AMLEOs and Identity A so that they may be taken into asylum with the Mexicans...if the AMWEE-1 report is a negative one, then consideration will be given to having the AMLEOs take asylum in the Uruguayan embassy in Havana. The test case utilIzing AMCANOE-3...is to be attempted on or about 21 August 1963, and if this attempt at asylum is successful then arrangements will be made to have the AMLEOs enter the Uruguayan embassy in the same manner."

104-10103-10024: 1963-1964 MIAMI STATION ACTION TO AID USG INVESTIGATION OF THE MURDER OF JFK

Probably CIA officer Charles Anderson: "At the time of the Kennedy murder...(I was) present in the FI branch in the Miami station when my chief, Mr. Warren Frank, issued orders to all case officers (there were about 12 of us in the branch at that time) to contact our leads inside Cuba and our support agents in Miami for leads possibly linking Castro Cuba or the Cuban exile community to the murder... I recall that Mr. Anthony Sforza, AMOT case officer, told me later that he had received specific instructions from Shackley about how the AMOT service was to go about aiding in the investigation...there was communication from HQS to our station about the need to query our assets...some communication from the FBI and other agencies to our station asking for information about possible Cuban involvement in the Kennedy murder...I recall making phone calls to agents of mine in Miami and I recall sending a W/T message to my chief agent AMWEE-1 in Cuba with questions about possible Castro Cuban involvement in the murder of Kennedy...some weeks after the Kennedy murder I went to Mexico for a meeting with my chief inside Cuba agent, AMWEE-1...AMWEE-1 described to me talks he held the day subsequent to the murder with fnu Melendez Bach, a protocol officer of the Cuban Foreign Relations Ministry...the night of (11/22/63) AMWEE-1 saw Osmani Cienfuegos, a Cuban leader, drive up to the house across the street from AMWEE-1's house at about 0100 hours. He stayed at that house for several hours. The house was occupied by an American expatriate technician who built audio surveillance gear for the Cuban intelligence service...AMWEE-1 opined that Cienfuegos visited the American that night because he was one of the few American sources the Cuban government could talk to in Cuba about what was going on in the USA...I should point out that my involvement in seeking Cuba leads to the Kennedy murder was slight. Other officers would have been more involved than I."
