Early phases of the operation resulted in the on-island recruitment of Ramon Tomas Guin Diaz (AMTRUNK-10), Modesto Orlando Orozco Basulto (AMTRUNK-9), and Carlos Pedraza Aguilar (AMTRUNK-11). Guin was arrested in February 1966. (Cubela was arrested at the same time, separately). Orozco, after reportedly running scared, was exfiltrated and terminated in March 1964. He returned to Cuba in December 1964 on an independent exfiltration mission and apparently remained in Cuba. There is some speculation that he might have been G-2. His knowledge of the identity of internal AMTRUNK agents, caused a planned infiltration mission to be scrapped. Pedraza was arrested in December 1965, tried for alleged CIA activities and given a 30 year prison sentence. JMWAVE Station advised in March 1966 that four former AMTRUNK internal assets were arrested for counterrevolutionary activities during early 1966, in addition to Cubela and Guin, and that all of the principals of the AMTRUNK network active during 1963 and 1964 had been rolled up. 06/11/64: Cable from JMWAVE to Director: Slugline RYBAT TYPIC AMTRUNK MHAPRON: "S/W letter No 9 from AMTRUNK-11 received WAVE 9 June plus 10 June phone call to AMICE-14 mother who lives with IDEN A of Ref B indicates S/W supplies for AMTRUNK-10 and 11 delivered to A-11 9 June as per Ref A plan. From context of letter appears A-11 in touch with other 3 AMTRUNKS needed to recover AMLASH cache, i.e. AMTRUNK-10, 15 and 18. Also indication A-10 'situation not good' but A-11 does not elaborate. STA assumes HQs aware that fisherman and restaurant owner whose names provided to AMLASH-1 per para 5 Ref A are AMTRUNK-18 and -15. FYI, AMTRUNK-10 has had no direct contact with either A-15 or -18 and knows them only by war names. This contact handled by AMTRUNK-11 who knows A-15 by true name but A-18 only by war name."
