Irving Richard Poyle. At the time of JFK's death, the CIA was planning a meeting with him in Mexico regarding the AMROD operation with officer Oliver Fortson (probably Tony Sforza).

104-10100-10090: MATCH OF 201 IDENTITY

As of the writing of this 9/30/63 memo, FBI informant Poyle had a biographic identifier - 201-733547 - that had some kind of relationship with the agent of another agency with the CIA bio number 201-338838 (the identity of that individual remains unknown). The man referred to with the first bio number may be "identical" with the second man. For another version of the same document, see 104-10528-10056.

11/13/63: Cable from Mexico City to Director, cable MEXI 6878: "After discussion with (REDACTION), Mexico City Station agrees Poyle meet can be made either Monterrey or MEXI but for sake of AMROD op if meet is to be in MEXI Fortson not be used." C/WH/3 John Whitten commented: "Would expect Fortson MEXI".

11/22/63: Cable WAVE 8068 from JMWAVE to Director: "1. WAVE considers Poyle travel WAVE area or PBPRIME (U.S.) not immediate certainty (see paras 2A and 2E Ref B and para 4 Ref C), since Poyle actually has proposed meeting ODENVY (FBI) rep only MEXI (see para 2B Ref C). 2. Poyle's wife (REDACTION) on several occasions has stated she and Poyle considering living either Brazil, Philippines, or some other country where Spanish spoken. (REDACTION) has hinted Poyle not planning return PBPRIME (see paras 2B and 2E Ref E). 3. WAVE CO's discussions with local ODENVY reps have resulted agreement that Poyle possibly involved in real or imagined legal difficulties which may require clarification before Poyle willing risk return PBPRIME (see para 4 Ref E). 4. View above and fact that Poyle expects meet ODENVY PLP in Mexico (i.e. Fortson see para 1 Ref E) WAVE strongly recommends attempt be made meet Poyle MNTY per Ref F." Other ops considerations...exclude (Mexico City Station) and WAVE as meeting site. Accordingly, HQS approves MNTY (Monterrey, Mexico field office).

11/26/63: Cable DIR 85001 from Director to JMWAVE and Mexico (Orig: H. Swenson, Unit: C/SAS/CI), ref WAVE 8068: "1. Fortson should handle Poyle interview because of his familiarity with background. Other ops considerations, including those in ref, exclude MEXI and WAVE as meeting site. 2. Accordingly HQs approves MNTY. Only caveat is that MNTY commo facilities are limited and should be used to minimum. 3. Request MEXI and WAVE lay on meeting at MNTY."

104-10506-10028: MEMO: LATIN AMERICA DIVISION TASK FORCE REPORT OF POSSIBLE CUBAN COMPLICITY IN THE JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION

01/08/64: "A letter from AMSHOT-1 (now SLFREE-1) on-island...advised that one Francisco Blanco was arrested on 17 Oct 1963 for involvement in a planned assassination of Fidel Castro. Blanco was employed by the Office of Planificacion (sic) JUCEPLAN. JMWAVE Station provided a copy of the letter to local FBI office."

01/09/64: Dispatch from COS, JMWAVE to Chief, Special Affairs Staff: "1. Transmitted herewith are two copies of a letter received from AMSHOT-1, postmarked 8 January 1964, and a Cuban Ministry of Communications letter directed to Manuel Castilla Nunez regarding his requested ham radio operator's permit. The original of the latter document has been submitted to the JMWAVE KURIOT Section. 2. We are furnishing ODENVY (FBI) locally with copies of the attachment for their files. 3. 104-10308-10065: CABLE: AMSHOT -1 REPORTED IN LETTER DATED 8 JAN 64 THAT FRANCISCO BLANCO

01/20/64: Cable from JMWAVE to Director: "1. AMSHOT-1 reported in letter dated 8 Jan 64 that Francisco Blanco, who had been employed planificacion (sic), arrested 17 Oct 63 for involvement planned assassination AMTHUG/1. Unnamed wife of Blanco who allowed visit him at G-2 HQs in Vibora reported Blanco appeared drugged. Only previous mention AMSHOT-1 made of Blanco was in 6 Nov 63 letter reporting arrest Francisco Blanco aka Panchito along with his brother-in-law for mason connections. 2. An unnamed person of French parents was also arrested with Blanco, and about month later, Blanco's friend FNU Vega also arrested. AMSHOT-1 explains that a pilot who worked with Blanco and who was contacted in London about 6-7 months ago by PBPRIMER (American) is now afraid he too will be implicated by Blanco. 3. No identifiable WAVE traces Blanco, but 62 HAVA phone book lists three possibly identicals. 4. Pilot para two probably identical AMFAUNA-28 who ACSI Source DUJ 315/41. ACSI local rep being advise of foregoing. 5. Index. C/S Comment: *Believed pilot meeting with unidentified person London and Mexico applicable ACSI relationship with AMFAUNA-28."

1973 - Document Extract: Irving Richard Poyle is revealed in this document to be 201-733547, LX-3891, and the subject of a July 1973 debriefing with Mitchell WerBell. WerBell is reported to be the employer of Jerry Hemming and Anselmito Aliegro. Aliegro was the son of Anselmo Aliegro, Prime Minister of Cuba in 1944 and president of the Cuban Senate in 1954 and 1959; served as acting Prime Minister for one day after Batista fled).

Names included Amselmito Aliegro, Odon Alvarez de la Campa, Julio Fernandez Valenzuela - "the only one alive from the Felipe Santiago case", (p. 21) Jose (Pepe) Torrientes, (p. 24) 201-728159 Esteban Ventura, (p. 25) "Colonel Kale" - probably Sam Kail - "...was with the American embassy in Havana. REDACTED said there was talk that he helped out the counter-revolution."
