Speeches of Fidel caused trouble. Agents against authority. Judicial power broken. First asylum, and later, exile. (see page 5). Photograph of Alvarez appears..." Page 27: "Interview of Dr. Elio Alvarez, ex-Cuban judge. He was arrested eight times before formal charges were placed against him. He was imprisoned in all the different prisons of Havana at one time or another. He tells about one branch of the police being under arrest by the agents of another branch of the police. He calls La Cabana the 'Hilton' of the prisons. He was held 11 days before it was published in the newspapers. The prisoners had to be given tetanus shots because of their bayonet wounds. According to the doctors, Dr. Alvarez had four bayonet wounds in the shoulder and two bumps on the head. Among the people he accuses of mistreating the prisoners were Herman Marks and a Captain Carbonell, a negro. The prison authorities made the prisoners listen to the speeches of Fidel, and when the prisoners protested, they were beaten. The people who accused Dr. Alvarez were present in court when he was tried, and they were wearing 45s, to shoot him if he were freed. He was released, and escaped by lying on the floor of a car, eventually taking refuge in the Salvadoran Embassy..."
