Cryptonym: AMPUTEE-1
A Field Information Report in 1956 which was approved by Growery, cited the Source Cryptonym as AMPUTEE.
A cable in March, 1960, from Havana, referred to a chance encounter in Miami between Zamka (David S. Morales) and AMELU-3. A-3 told Zamka that a pamphlet was published by Cuban exiles on the anniversary of the amputee's assassination (March 7).
Therefore, it is possible that AMPUTEE-1 was named after the individual referred to as the amputee in this cable.
