Roque opines that while Varona may be an acceptable leader for the FRD, there needs to be some balances. Roque was interested in the MDC, and was promoting Rasco. Roque opined that the loss of the so-called MRR dissidents "was a serious loss to the FRD because it alienated a substantial element of the young revolutionaries whom Roque, along with many others these days, look upon as the real hope for the future in Cuba...(Roque) was going to give very careful consideration to joining the MDC to help Rasco...he was fully aware of the risks involved and presumably is willing to take them."
