104-10168-10228: MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD: UFGA 318--SUMMARY

11/30/60 Memorandum for the Record by DC/WH/4/PA L. P. Napoli: "The attached report concerns a meeting held on 24 October 1960 in Miami and was written by AMPANIC-1. The meeting was presided over by Napoleon Becquer, a member of the group of exiles who fled from Lacabana Fortress. Generally speaking, AMPANIC-1's message in this letter evolves around his feelings about Varona and the FRD. AMPANIC-1 spends a great deal of time pointing out that although FRD, and especially Varona, called for unity among the various anti-Castro groups, at every opportunity Varona throws a stumbling block in the path of true unity among the groups...According to AMPANIC-1, if unity is to be accomplished Varona must go or change his tactics." AMPANIC-1's identity can be seen in marginalia, difficult to read: "Cardisi Ruiz, Delton? Jorge Eduardo".

01/22/65, Dispatch from COS, JMWAVE to Deputy Chief, WH/SA: Page 6: ..."29. (REDACTION) visited Mrs. Orozco later that same evening of 13 January. She seemed surprised to learn that 'Jorge' had visited Mrs. Orozco earlier that day. (REDACTION) attempted to convince Mrs. Orozco that the 'Jorge' mentioned in a note she had left for Orozco was one Jorge Mayo/or Mallo/Cardoso, a friend of Orozco's in the Rebel-Army-in-exile organization 'Ejercito Libertador' to which another close friend of Orozco's, Jose Lopez Legon aka 'Pepe El Toro' belongs. Mrs. Orozco remarked to (REDACTION) that she did not know how stupid (REDACTION) considered her to be but that she was completely certain that the 'Jorge' mentioned in the note was the same 'Jorge' who had visited her and her husband. Mrs. Orozco also told (REDACTION) that 'Jorge' had told her that his name was 'Torres.' (REDACTION) confirmed that this was his name."
