11/01/62, Cable: Slugline GYROSE: "Source: AMCORE-2 is letter signed 'Cesar', National Military Coordinator of the ARD-AAA-I. Other was dated 21 August from Habana, mailed from Dr. R. Nodal - Tarafa, Puerto Rico. Cesar apparently wrote a study which he made on the military status of Cuba, forwarded through Jeronimo Esteve, brother-in-law of AMPAN-19, to AMPAN-19. Esteve, says that source is a retired Cuban military officer who is connected with the AA in Puerto Rico."

09/11/64, Urgent FBI Radiogram: from San Juan to Director, Dallas and Miami: "RESJRAD, September 10 last. Jeronimo Esteves, who is identified as SJ 492 - S, is one of main sources in Cuban activities of SJ and was interviewed September 10 last. He stated he is second cousin of Odio and was fairly close to her family in Cuba and to her while she lived in Ponce. He stated he has heard stories regarding her marital difficulties and believes she is immature and not able to handle her status as refugee as she is from wealthy family in Cuba and always waited upon and was center of attraction of family. He knows she was under psychiatric care in Ponce and Dallas and possibly in Miami. He states family is divided regarding opinion of her. Some believe she is very neurotic while others extend pity and sympathy. He states she is intelligent and a very convincing person, but does exaggerate and wants to be the center of activities. He has not seen Odio for more than one year. He stated she had difficulties with her brother Cesar in Miami. He suggested his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez, 9250, S.W. 31 Terrace, phone 226-7492, be interviewed also. He also stated his sister, Mrs. Miguel Angel Campos, who is instructor at UPR, be contacted, but she is not available until September 12, next. Source of opinion his sisters would have more information regarding Odio than he....Miami contact Mr. and Mrs. Martinez. SJ will contact Mr. Miguel Campos, September 12, next." 09/12/64, Letter headed Memorandum from Miami: Page 4: ...."On September 11, 1964, Mrs. Grethel Esteves de Martinez, 9250 Southwest 31st Terrace, Miami, stated she is a second cousin of Sylvia Odio. Sylvia's youngest sister, age 6, resides with Mrs. Martinez. Mrs. Martinez said she last saw Sylvia when Sylvia and her children passed through Miami en route to Dallas, Texas, from Puerto Rico, in the summer of 1963. Mrs. Martinez said she could not comment on the accuracy of Sylvia's information concerning Lee Harvey Oswald appearing at her apartment with two other men. She said Sylvia has had psychiatric treatment since going to Dallas, but seemed quite normal when she came through Miami in the summer of 1963. She said she believes Sylvia has decided to change from Catholic to another religion but did not know if Sylvia's emotional state influenced this decision. Mrs. Martinez said she had no idea who Leopoldo, named by Sylvia Odio as a companion of Oswald, might be."

Three brothers, JAVIER, 11, FREDERICK 10, and JORGE, 8, live in care of Catholic Welfare, Dallas. A brother, AMADOR, 13 is located at Searcy, Arkansas. Sister MARY-LOLY, age 15 , lives with CESAR ODIO, and MARY ANN, age 6, lives with Mrs. GRETHEL MARTINEZ, Miami."

"On 9/19/64, Manuel Ray, Calle La Rabida #310, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, advised that on 9/4/64 he was interviewed in Miami, at which time he stated he never knew any individual by the name of Leopoldo connected with JURE. He stated he had met Mrs. Silvia Odio on five or six occasions, mainly social, and he originally met her at the home of Jeronimo Esteve, Jr. in San Juan. He indicated she had been active in JURE in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1962 prior to her departure for Dallas. He never had too much faith in her JURE activities. It was noted that Esteve was a cousin of Mrs. Odio...."

..."On 12/21/65, SOI, Roberto Roca Rosillo (protect identity) advised that the El Comite de las Organizaciones Democraticas Cubanas de Puerto Rico, aka Comite de Unidad (105-149751) was in the process of being reorganized in Puerto Rico. The organizers, Jeronimo Esteve, David Castanon and Col. Ramon Barquin, were attempting to bring new members into the unity committee. At the same time they were trying to combat the new unity group being formed by Manolo Ray, Enrique Nunez, and other 'left wing' Cuban exiles."

The memorial states " MARTINEZ, GRETHEL L. ESTEVE, 93, born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba passed away peacefully on January 22, 2015... Grethel is the daughter of Jerómino Esteve and Himilce Abril. In 1936 the family moved to Havana, Cuba where she studied Philosophy at the University of Havana. In 1943 she married Raúl Martinez; both were blessed with five children...In 1962 they immigrated to Miami were she resided until present day. Grethel had a profound Catholic faith...While in Miami, she continued her studies at Biscayne College and received a certificate in Social Work.
