1958-1961: Esclanate offers this description for Cuban State Security: "On August 22, 1958, in the Sierra Maestra mountains, Commander Raul Castro signed a decree establishing the Servicio de Inteligenciua Basica (SIR) (Basic Intelligence Service.) On January 14, 1959, at the suggestion of Commander Fidel Castro, the Departmento de Investigaciones del Ejercito Revelde (DIER) (Investigation Department of the Rebel Army) was created. On March 26, 1959, the Departmento de Informacion de Inteligencia de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias (DIFAR) was formed. On June 6, 1961, the DIER and DIFAR joined together under the name of the Department of State Security (DSE)."

9/7/62 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "On evening 4 Sept WAVE (case officer) received lead received lead from WAVE contact Orlando (Rodriguez) Perez...who claimed he received following info from source he would not identify...Albin Odio arrived (in US) about week ago via small boat accompanied by Negro not further identified and young sailor named (first name unknown) Figueredo. This group trained as intelligence agents for one year and assigned mission (to) assassinate Ernesto Betancourt who works either CAS or Alliance for Progress; Napoleon Becquer, exile head (of the) Huber Matos group; or an unknown third person...other person (in) WAVE area in contact (with) Odio and knowledgeable (of) his mission is Perez Alamo...Traces reflect WAVE assisted MRP move group from Jamaica July 61...Perez Alamo member group and debriefed (at) Opa-Locka by AMBLINK-1...AMBLINK-1 picked Alamo up...joined by Wiesinger. After exchange (of) pleasantry (case officer) asked Alamo if he knows Odio and present activities...Alamo related Odio G-2 agent assigned task penetrating his group 'Ejercito Libertador' and eventually assassinating him. Two other assassination targets are AMCHIRP-1 and Napoleon Becquer...Upon arrival (at) vehicle Odio introduced (AMBLINK-1) as Pepi and (case officer) as Raymond...Odio imprisoned for shooting incident which occurred 60 and sentenced two years, and after release Odio approached by G-2 early 62 and asked (to) accept G-2 mission (in the US). Odio accepted same...Odio given task (to) infiltrate 'Ejercido Libertador', group ex-Batista and Rebel Army officers and determine extent (of CIA) sponsorship. Prior (to) conclusion (of) meeting Odio again said he most willing (to) work with (case officer) and follow instructions...this looks like our initial G-2 (double agent)."

This 9/24/62 cable from TFW/OPS SPT (probably Wendell Ullery) states that "IDEN A AND B ASSIGNED AMLUNT 1 AND 2".

This 9/24/62 cable from TFW states that Iden A is "Alwin (Odio) Tamayo" and Iden B is Duney (Perez) Alamo. TFW/OPS SPT Wendell Ullery probably also created this document.

104-10213-10103: MEMORANDUM-CONTINUATION OF RESEARCH FOR IDENTITY OF PERSONS WHO VISITED THE HOME OF MRS. SYLVIA ODIO IN DALLAS, TEXAS IN SEPTEMBER 1963

1962: "Alwin Odio Tamayo (201-334080) was cited in the Odio Black Book. According to a review of his 201 file ODIO, aka "Andres", came to the U.S. in a boat in 1962 with seven other men and was processed through CAS (Caribbean Admissions Center). With him were Angel RUIZ aka El Cobo, possibly G-2, and Jose OJEDA Santana, also possibly G-2. Odio's alleged (Cuban intelligence) mission in the US was to assassinate Ramon BARQUIN Lopez of the MRP (CIA asset), Alamo, and Napoleon BEQUER." Earlier in this memo is a reference to how Reynold GONZALEZ/AMCALL-1, a JMWAVE Station asset, is "cited in the Odio Black Book as having been caught (in 1961) by Castro agents on the ODIO farm near Havana." He was imprisoned and released in December 1977. A 8/22/78 memo from Acting Chief, Latin America Division to Scott Breckinridge, Principal Coordinator, HSCA Office of Legislative Counsel.

9/28/62 Memorandum for the Record by TFW/Special Assistant: "Perez Alamo recently came to the Station's attention in connection with a possible double agent, Alwin ODIO Tamayo. It is believed, however, that PEREZ served solely as a means of introduction to ODIO for the Station case officers."
