Cryptonym: AMHINT-39

Return to Main Crypts Page

Definition:
Delio Alberto Gonzalez Riba (201-308442). A cable in October 1961, included Delio Gonzalez among those who were to be assigned an AMHINT cryptonym. A dispatch on September 14, 1962, listed AMHINT-39, along with AMHINT-57, as DRE intelligence officers.
Status:
Documented
Discussion:
AMHINT-39's 201 number was partly obscured in a June 1962 document but the first four numbers were 201-3084, while the number after this was 201-308441, which matched Juan Marcelo Fiol Alvarez's 201 number from the October 1961 cable mentioned above. It is therefore argued here that AMHINT-39's 201 number was likely 201-308442 (as there was a curve similar to 2 in the last digit). This was Delio Gonzalez from the October 1961 cable.

Reinforcing this interpretation, in a September, 1962, dispatch, Delio Gonzalez's name featured on reports in which the source was AMHINT-39. In addition, a July 1962 dispatch on the DRE mentioned that AMHINT-39 was going to replace a AMBARB who was being removed from the AMBARB program in Santo Domingo.

A dispatch in October 1962, stated that Delio Gonzalez was awaiting a visa for the Dominican Republic, further strengthening the case to be AMHINT-39.

Two FBI documents in 1962 stated that Delio Gonzalez was a FBI informant (MM T-3), with an FBI airtel in June of 1962 also mentioning that he was an officer in the DRE. Julio Hernandez Rojo, AMHINT-40, was also mentioned as being a FBI informant and DRE officer.
