Return to Main Crypts Page

Definition:
Ricardo Rafael Sardinas Sanchez, head of the Cuban Cane Planters Association.
Status:
Documented
Discussion:
Ricardo Rafael Sardinas Sanchez was also assigned the cryptonym AMLOON-1.

A cable on December 2, 1960 noted that "AMBIDDY-1 (Manuel Artime Buesa) has stated that he, AMPALM-5 (Jose Rasco) and AMGUPPY-1 have nothing against AMBRONC-1 (Eduardo Martin y Elena) but find AMWAIL-5 (Manuel F. Goudie) unpalatable."

A memo in March of 1962 stated that "on 21 March Julio Garceran, Eusebio Mujal (former CTC head), Dr. Ricardo Rafael Sardinas (head of Cuban Cane Planters Assn.), and Dr. Aureliano Sanchez Arango (head of National Liberation Junta) flew to Guatemala City to meet with President Ydigoras. The subject was presumably a war plan against Communist Cuba which Ydigoras is proposing and denies subsequently to propose to the US government. It may involve discussion of establishment of an exile government in Guatemala."

A cable in May, 1963, mentioned that Sardinas was among those who attended a CRC meeting on May 19, 1963, at Bayfront Part, Miami. Maceo reported to Alice Caponong (probably Evalena S. Vidal) on this meeting.

02/07/61: FBI report from New York: Re: Clip: "NY T-1 on January 31, 1961, advised that a serious crisis has developed within the Frente Revolucionario Democratico (FRD), an anti-Castro organization in the United States. NY T-1 advised that this crisis within the FRD developed as follows...NY T-1 advised that Dr. Rasco had consulted with several other leaders of the FRD and had obtained their consent and signatures on a document which, in reality, would be a quasi-coup to take over control of the FRD and replace Dr. Manuel Antonio de Varona as coordinator of the FRD. NY T-1 advised that Dr. Rasco had the consent of Dr. Ricardo Rafael Sardinas, Manuel Cobo, and the representative of Manuel Artime Buesa. NY T-1 stated that when this statement was presented to Justo Carrillo, another leader of the FRD, Carrillo stated that although he agreed in principle with these statements, nevertheless he could not agree with the action because it would be an unlawful seizure of power and as a result, Carrillo has become very close to Dr. Antonio de Varona. NY T-1 stated that Dr. Varona and Dr. Sardinas were in New York for a meeting on January 29, 1961, when this split within the FRD developed and both returned immediately to Miami..."
