7/10/64 memo describes AMFAST-6 as an "AMOT source". 104-10180-10316.

August 1964 FBI memo states that Jose Garcia Valdez, an associate of Manuel Ray Rivero, furnished information concerning an SNFE encampment on Williams Island and Andros Island in the Bahamas. 124-10214-10381.

Oct. 1968, Jose Garcia Valdez, a PSI for the FBI, reported that Jose Antonio Duarte-Oropesa was not active with Poder Cubano (Cuban Power). The book Before Fidel describes Pepe Gastillo (Pepe the Trigger) as also known as Pepe Iglesias. Jose Iglesias Rey, a Miami attorney, describes himself as the UNARE rep in exile and reports on Duarte. 124-10285-10256

6/27/64 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "According AMFAST-6 report 25 June, AMBANG-1 (Manuel Ray Rivero) informed Pepe Gatillo (Jose Garcia Valdez) their departure date for (Cuba) would be 1 July...Gatillo told AMFAST-6 that he and AMBANG-1 to leave at 0500 on 1 July and meet other boat at 0900 same morning off (US) coast...On 24 June Gatillo told AMFAST-6 that AMBANG-1 would remain (Cuba) for 15 days in order coordinate plan of action with people there and order to see certain people close AMTHUG-1 (Fidel Castro) who plotting with AMBANG-1.

6/27/64 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "Pepe Gatillo told AMFAST-6 on 26 June that AMBANG-1 (Manuel Ray Rivero) dyed his hair blond and is using false teeth to change his appearance...AMFAST-6 has impression that AMBANG-1 and Gatillo leaving about 4 or 5 am 27 June...According to AMTAUP-2 (probably Armando Alanis Angulo) executive board members believe AMBANG-1 in ZRMETAL (Washington, DC)."

JMWAVE to Director: "During 29 June 64 conversation with AMFAST-6, reported DD-989 of 29 June, Jose Garcia Valdez, aka Pepe Gatillo, said he had meeting the morning with AMBANG-1 (Manuel Ray Rivero)...According Garcia, AMBANG-1 intends to embark 7/3/64."

7/10/64 cable from JMWAVE to Director: "AMOT source AMFAST-6 reported by telephone...AMBANG-1 (Manuel Ray Rivero) was to leave that day for Cuba...AMFAST-6 to meet with Pepe Gatillo to get report on success of operation." 7/22/64, 104-10180-10280: Jose Garcia Valdez, marginalia identifies him as 201-299287. Manuel Ray urgently orders him to prepare for a trip in Cuba in one week to Pinar del Rio province. Also see 104-10414-10124: The final endnote on the final page of the Mexico City Station History identifies this 201 number as belonging to LITAU-3.

9/4/64: memo from JMWAVE to Director re supdata from AMFAST-6, from Jose Garcia Valdez, aka "Pepe Gatillo": "Gatillo said that he would depart from Miami on 3 Sept 64 to deliver a boat to Eloy Gutierrez Menoyo, the military leader of SFNE...in the Bahamas." Gatillo also said he would deliver two boats to Gutierrez in Puerto Rico.

Sept. 1964 - Intelligence Information Cable: "St. George said that he knows all about Garcia's trip in the Juliana when he transported (Herrera)...St. George said that he is the contact between Ray and Gutierrez with the people of Haiti...Garcia said that as soon as he succeeds in delivering St. George, Mirta Horras and Ray in the catamaran to an undisclosed location, he is to fly to Santo Domingo..."

"On 9 Sept 1964 Jose Garcia Valdez, aka 'Pepe Gatillo', said that Manuel Ray Rivero, leader of the Junta Revolucionaria Cubana (JURE, Cuban Revolutionary Junta) had asked Garcia to take Ray, photographer Andrew St. George, and Mirta Borras on a trip to an unspecified location. The group is to depart at 1000 on 10 Sept in a catamaran...which belongs to JURE..." The source is listed on the previous page as "AMFAST-6 from Pepe Gatillo on 9 Sept" and is a "member of a group of Cuban emigres trained in the techniques of information collection".

104-10217-10424: CABLE: CMQ HAVA BROADCAST 0710 HOURS 20 MAY GAVE FOLL

5/22/65 cable from JMWAVE. Source was AMWARM-1. Marginalia identifies AMFAST-6 as Luciano. "Captured spies stated they received instructions prior going Cuba from man named Luciano and an American, both of whom CIA members...Luciano is AMFAST-6 (C-87286). American is possibly AMSWIRL-1 (Customs agent Cesar Diosdado) whose duties require him check all Cuban exile boats in Florida keys..." AMWARM-1 is identified as C-83909-40. 1966, 104-10260-10249: The Diosdado file shows that letters are being returned to "Jose Santiago Aparicio Garcia Valdes". Also see 104-10181-10452, p. 4: 6/7/65 report states that AMFAST-6 is identified as "C-81" in the AMOT files - he and AMOT-194/C-134 are both providing information to Pedro Roig Ortega Pacios Curras about Manuel Vega/AMPOON-1. Roig is shown in 1994.06.23.13:23:55:720005 - p. 309, defector from the Cuban embassy in Mexico, probably about June 1962, had served as Commercial Counselor. 8/14/67 memo on meeting between AMFAST-6 and Haitian leaders, slugline AMFAST JMUNION: Marginalia states: "Bob W, (Bob Wall), I'm trying to find AMFAST-6 file. Do you have any ideas?" Signed by "OJ" or something like it. At p. 55: DC/WH/COG may have been "OJ".
