Return to Main Crypts Page

Definition:
Unknown identity. AMCLATTER-8 told AMCLATTER-4 (Pedro Fernandez) in June 1960 that he had learned that police in Havana were probably investigating the activities of William Pawley of Miami.
Status:
Unknown
Discussion:
AMCLATTER-8 had apparently learned this through an informant in the Prime Minister's office. Also, in a cable in August of 1960, AMCLATTER-8 informed Havana Station that June Cobb was under investigation by G-2 for being a suspected U.S. agent.

07/01/60, Cable from Havana to Director: JMNET: "1. AMCLATTER-8 told AMCLATTER-4 (Pedro Fernandez) on 28 June 1960 that he had learned through an informant in the Prime Ministers office that the police are investigating the activities of a North American known as 'Pauli.' 2. 08/10/60: Cable from Havana to Director: REF: DIR 42517 (OUT 52625): "1. Due cable jam ref received 5 Aug for action. Telephone call made but informed Lloyd I. Raines departed several days ago. 2. Station urges use caution in Cobb meetings. AMCLATTER-8 informs Cobb under investigation by G-2 as suspect American agent. Claim is that 40 peso telephone call of Cobb paid for by American Emb, and that Cobb received a check from American Narcotics Bureau. Charges seem far fetched, but past Cobb association with local QKFLOWAGE (United States Information Agency/USIA) officer have probably singled her out for investigation. C/S Comment: *Dissemination applicable JMNET cables. **HQs stated Lloyd I. Raines arriving HAVA 1 Aug from Jamaica for 2 day stay to make contact with June Cobb."
