Pieper: "Source visited the offices of the Rainforth Foundation on 3/26/62 and talked at length with Dr. Miro Diaz Cruz...after hearing something of AMBUCKLE-1 and her work in the CFC, Dr. Diaz suggested perhaps they could work together, since their aims were the same."

1/25/63 memo: "AMBUCKLE-1 reported that Attorney General (Robert F. Kennedy) statement that no air support ever promised for Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) invasion has had very bad effect on exile community...They feel statement dealt mortal blow to CRC/AMBUD, because if CRC entirely responsible for invasion, CRC should not have permitted invasion to take place. Artime and San Roman also receiving criticism for having let Attorney General convince them agree to such statement...Everyone in exile community awaiting Miro (AMBUD-1) answer, and it felt if he does not answer, he finished. If Miro to retain any respect among Cubans, he must state facts, and not permit anyone believe he allowed brigade invade Cuba without support."

4/23/63 cable states: "AMBUCKLE-1 reports: Many Cubans feel crisis has now passed beyond Miro personal matter but it has been for best as now must start over, with new org and new leaders. A-1 suggests Cuban non-polit admin org (called for by Washington) which would be counter-part of Crimmins office and act as liaison between Crimmins and various exile groups, passing on requests and/or estimates their potential. Tony Varona has little sympathy as believed he and others want maintain CRC for personal monetary reasons. Many doubt statements of both Miro and Pres. Kennedy and inclined (to) believe charge made by Castro in 19 Apr speech that Miro had hoped (to) replace Urrutia as Pres in 59 and if so appointed would have declared himself communist."

1/16/64 cable WAVE 0569 from WAVE to Mexico City: "According WAVE sources (AMRAZOR-1 and AMBUCKLE-1) AMPALM-26 planned depart WAVE area for Mexico 20 Nov 63 in order attend seminar Federacion Internacional de Organizaciones de Peridostas Profesionales (FIOPP) held 18-29 Nov 1963...planned attendance FIOPP by AMPALM-26. On return WAVE area A-26 told AMBUCKLE-1 he attended FIOPP seminar."

6/6/64 cable from JMWAVE to Director: A "systematic canvass (of exiles)" was conducted after Manolo Ray's failed raid on Cuba on 5/20/64, which resulted only in his arrest at the beginning of June. Those canvassed for reactions included in this order: "A. UDCL, COJCE, FORDC, DRE: ...Publicity stunt which went wrong...B. Dr. Enrique Huertas: ...Harbingers bleak and hopeless period perhaps equal post-Giron...C. AMOTs: ...He perpetrated comedy of errors for propaganda purposes...D. AMPEARL-1...Most exiles claim Ray wanted to get caught...E. Dr. Antonio Maceo:...Many have lost faith in Ray...F. AMBUCKLE-1...Most people reluctant talk, but were not surprised at Ray failure as two weeks had passed since 20 May without action...G. AMTICK-1...Most feel this publicity stunt. If serious, Ray would not have taken photographers and girl...H. AMSHRUG-1:...He and Gutierrez Menoyo being flamed for Cuban military alert and flurry (of) executions and imprisonments...I. AMPAN-18...People say Ray must have wanted to be caught, otherwise would have avoided Anguilla Key. J. AMPAID-4: Ray has lost support. K. AMTOBY-13: Ray is laughingstock. L. AMARGO-1: Ray's stock low. M. Zig Zag Libre editors: Bronx cheer. N. AMHIM-1: Ray butt of new jokes. O. Dr. Espinosa, head of exile teachers: Ray has lost 80% of his former popularity. P. AMSCROLL-3...believe Ray wanted it that way to save face..."
