9/6/61 cable from WH/4/PM Cal Hicks to JMWAVE: "AMBLESS-3 phoned "Hitch" (Hicks) at HQS morning 6 Sept saying Pedro J. L. Alvarez Pio...arrived from Havana on PAA flt night 5 Sept. Has message for Hitch from AMBLESS-1 (Alberto del Junco Mesa). Today debrief and make arrangements to meet Alvarez. Advise. Just received SW (shortwave) from A-1 as follows: 'We received money. It is not enough. 1st Sept Pedro J. L. Alvarez, uncle national chief of maritime supply and receptions and communications will depart via Miami. You can contact him through the person we have in Miami. (Evidently means AMBLESS-3). His return when mission completes urgent. Magno Morelo Melo is assistant national coordinator of MDC at present time that is to say he will be the one who will keep in contact with you in the event I disappear. Visa waivers requested have not arrived.' Make arrangements with AMBLESS-3 to pass RS-6 radio complete with pads, sigplan and crystals to AMBLESS-1 in same manner money was passed. AMBLESS-3 has already checked and informed "Hitch" this could be done. RIMM authorized provide radio equipment as requested."

104-10506-10028: MEMO: LATIN AMERICA DIVISION TASK FORCE REPORT OF POSSIBLE CUBAN COMPLICITY IN THE JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION

Mid-September 1961, two cables: "Both these cables discuss support to AMBLESS-1 (Alberto del JUNCO Mesa) one of the Agency's best controlled on-island asset (sic). We provided financial and other support for on-island operations. (Comment: If brought to the attention of the GOC, such activities might have prompted the GOC to consider retaliatory action against the US government.)

10/4/61 dispatch from Chief, JMWAVE to Chief, WHD: "Forwarded as an attachment to this dispatch are verbatim copies and photos of the 27 September Revolucion article of references... "Publicamos ayer, junto a la informacion de las maniobras de la CIA y sus agentes en Cuba, las contrarevolucionarios traidores a su, copias fotostaticos de los documentos en clave que servian para los manejos de la 'gusanera' imperialista. Hoy ofrecemos esta otro documento, revelador, ademas, de la sumision al yanqui cuyo idioma usaban los titeres miserables para comunicarse entre si y con sus amos." Translation: "We published yesterday, together with the information of the maneuvers of the CIA and its agents in Cuba, the counterrevolutionary traitors to their, photostatic copies of the documents in key that served for the maneuvers of the imperialist 'gusanera'. Today we offer this other document, also revealing the submission to the Yankee whose language the miserable puppets used to communicate with each other and with their masters." Transmitted: "MDC. Alberto Junco movement waiting his return to join in form. Javier Souto...within next week under ground joint executive will be organized. (Rendezvous) will be sent soonest. Except MRR all movements need money...The money we need is for all groups. Give to Victoria Caspi at Hardem Ave...Miami Beach in amount of 25000 dollars. When she receives it we will receive 150,000 pesos. Is very secure operation. Please do it soonest. Andres Luis, Jorge...Maps and pads can be sent. We can't start to receive equipment in six provinces together with MRR as of now."

10/4/61 cable from WH/4/PM to JMWAVE: "Concur urgency exfil AMBLESS-1. Unable assess plan until details proposed reception, however, HQS desires use of Tejana not be planned." WH comment: "Plan to exfiltrate AMBLESS-1 due (to) surfacing in Revolucion article 27 Sept. AMDENIM-1 and AMBLESS-3 attempting arrange reception. WAVE will forward plans as soon as received."

11/4/61 memo from WH/4 to DDP: Seven groups opposing Castro are trying to form one unified resistance. MRR..."primary strength of this group lies in the Havana area...the leader of this group, one OMAR, is presently in the United States and about to return to Cuba. In his absence, Esteban is the acting leader...this group gives the most promise for effective operations...Externally, the present representatives are Rafael Aurelio Quintero (the Omar) (AMJAVA-4) and Juan Manuel Guillot (AMBRONC-5) ...MRP...the current internal leader is one Antonio. Manolo Ray (AMBANG-1) was the former external representative of this group. Externally its principal representatives are Rogelio Cisneros, Igancio Mendoza, and Marcos Williams...UR (is)...thirty small factions...In August of 1961, of its leaders, CESAR was captured and JUSTO took asylum and is presently in the United States. Present internal leadership is RICARDO...principal representatives are Alberto Fernandez Echavarria (AMDENIM-1), Andres Zayas, and Cesar Brito...MDC (Catholic labor organization, strongest in Oriente and Matanzas areas)...the former group leader Lucas FERNANDEZ Badue is presently in the United States - the current internal leader is Alberto del Junco Mesa...former external leader of the MDC was Jose Ignacio Rasco. (AMPALM-5) 30th of November, a small labor group...its current leader, one David Salvador, has been in prison in Havana for some time. The current internal leader is one BENITO. (Three external leaders) are competing for control: Jesus Fernandez, Carlos Rodriguez Quesada, and Andres Carrillo Mendoza. Rescate (RDR)...(Antonio) Varona is the titular head of the Rescate. Was succeeded as MDC coordinator by AMBLESS-1...according AMBLESS-1 who arrived WAVE area Jan 1962 ("Lucas") attempting create dissension within MDC in (Cuba) by supporting his own personal followers unilaterally of internal coordinator Magnus Moreno."

1/23/63 memo from SAC, MM to Director, FBI: "On January 4, 1963, Rafael Aguirre...advised that he continues as one of the officers of the Jose Fernandez Badue faction of the...MDC...Aguirre stated that when the office of the MDC was burglarized on June 21, 1962, among the things stolen was a membership list containing the addresses of members in (Miami)...on about January 3, 1963, members in the Miami area received letters containing propaganda against the Fernandez Badue group of the MDC...the person who sent these letters had the stolen membership list. Aguirre advised...the person who sent the letters was Alberto del Junco, who for the past several months has been leading an independent MDC group and has been working very viciously against the Fernandez Badue group..." (at p. 10): Alvarez/AMCUBE-1, now the secretary of MDC in Miami, writes about how "former national coordinator" Junco is the delegate of the underground and has replaced Jose Fernandez Badue. "This documentation is located at (the MDC) office at 1328 West Flagler Street, Miami."

12/13/63 cable WAVE 8983 from JMWAVE to Director, slugline KEYWAY QUWEB PBRUMEN: "IDEN A ref is AMCUBE-1 who arrived JMWAVE 5 Sept 1961 as legal traveller and is former Chief Commo and Receptions of MDC in (Cuba). Iden B (note: AMBLESS-1) former national coordinator MDC who presently in WAVE area. AMCUBE-1 introduced to JMWAVE contact thru AMBLESS-1 who then in (Cuba). AMCUBE-1 trained S/W and essential PM and returned to Cuba 2 October 1961. Special attempts made mount reception ops with AMCUBE-1 committees but all failed. Jan 1962 was last S/W message received from AMCUBE-1 in which he said he compromised and being followed and requested exfil. In April 1962 AMBLESS-1 learned from several sources AMCUBE-1 suffered severe mental breakdown and confined (to) hospital. FYI it was also during this period that MDC suffered several flaps in which members of leadership arrested. Contact with AMBLESS-1 and AMCUBE-1 formally discontinued Oct 62 for lack of productivity. JMWAVE has no further ops interest AMCUBE-1 but would like (to) know when (he) comes WAVE area for possible debriefing activities since Oct 62 and for updating our info re MDC in Cuba."
