His brother testified against Cublela and the others at the 1966 criminal trial in Cuba. These two brothers were Lebanese Cubans, with a last name similar to the popular Middle East wrapped sandwich known as felafel.

Smith of the Washington Office met with Dr. Guillermo Belt, former Cuban ambassador to the US, Major Higinio Diaz (AMNORM-1), and Anis Felaifel. "Felaifel was the chief of the 12-man police force of the Country Club of Havana." Major Diaz felt that it was time for major action against Cuba - he was told to wait for guidance.

8/1/69 report provided by Rolando Cubela's father to FBI: The following persons were arrested with Cubela: Alberto Blanco Romariz, Jose Luis Gonzalez Gallarreta, Juan Hilarion ALSINA Navarro, Ramon GUIN Diaz. "The only witness for the prosecution was a man named FELAFIEL (Juan Felafiel Canahan) who testified that he had been infiltrated in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for three years and had learned of the plot to kill Fidel Castro through statements made by his brother (Anis Felafiel Canahan), a resident of Miami, Fla., a member of the Revolutionary Recovery Movement (MRR) and a man in the confidence of Manuel ARTIME Buesa."
