Miami, Fla., June 13, 1968 - New York Daily News: "An exiled Cuban army officer said today that Sirhan Sirhan, the accused assassin of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, told him before Kennedy's death, "What we need in the 'United States is another Fidel Castro." The exile, Jose Duarte, said he argued with Sirhan and scuffled with him. Duarte told a news conference the incident occurred about three weeks ago in a house at Hollywood, Calif. said he recognized Sirhan as the man he scuffled with when Sirhan's picture appeared in newspapers after Kennedy's death. He reported the incident to Hollywood authorities and identified a police photo of Sirhan. He added that the man he fought with told him he was an Arab: "He said what we (Cuban exiles) are doing is just what the Israelites are doing and that we are getting the same help from the CIA that Israel is getting," Duarte stated. The scuffling began, Duarte said, "when he accused me of being an agent of the CIA." Duarte said: "he made some derogatory remarks about Cuba and about me and we came to grips. Somebody separated us. He left." The exile, who sald he has been living in Los Angeles, said pictures of Castro and of the slain Communist guerrilla leader Che Guevara and slogans critical of the Vietnam War ard the Johnson Administration were posted on the walls of the house where he met Sirhan. Duarte said he and about 15 Cuban companions attended the meeting after seeing leaflets advertising an exhibition of photographic slides taken in Cuba. He said he objected to some of the descriptions given to the slides and demanded to be heard. He said he was given permission but was interrupted and the scuffling ensued."

104-10120-10133: PROJECT RESISTANCE

10/22/68, attachment to memo by LAPD officer William Curtin: "The Students for a Democratic Society Centre...was bombed at 3 am this date. When (Roy Hargraves) returned to his residence, he was arrested on the outstanding traffic warrants ...Hargraves was interviewed and admitted the bombing...10/24/68, memo by LAPD officer William Curtin: "(Roy Hargraves) was reinterviewed and gave the following information. He is close to Jose Antonio Duarte (ex-Major in F. Castro's army). Major Duarte is trying to get close to the CUBAN POWER group but is not trusted by them because of his ex-ties to Castro. (Hargraves) denied any connections with CUBAN POWER except through Duarte. He said that he got the explosives through Duarte and that Duarte was also supposed to give him some CUBAN POWER stickers for him to leave at the site of the SDS bombing but that he never received the stickers so went ahead with the bombing. Duarte knew he was going to do the bombing and indicated that this type action could get him into the CUBAN POWER group. (Hargraves) admitted that he and Duarte went to a 'Black Militant' house or office in Compton some time back and broke out windows. Duarte had a smoke grenade but 'got shook' and could not get the pin pulled and they ran..."

104-10225-10067: REVOLUTIONARY GUERILLA TRAINING IN MEXICO

10/29/68, a confidential source advised: "(The source learned from) Gerry Hemming that Roy Hargraves, another American adventurer presently living in Los Angeles, California, was formerly active in Cuban revolutionary matters in Miami. As of October 29, 1968, Hargraves was in jail in Los Angeles charged with dynamiting right wing organizations and also the headquarters of the Black Panthers in the Los Angeles area. Hemming reportedly learned from Hargraves that he works for Jose Antonio Duarte Cropeza, a Cuban exile living in Los Angeles who is associated with black militant organizations and extreme right wing groups. Duarte apparently wants racial warfare between these two groups and is promoting unrest...The source described Hemming and Hargraves as extremists, activists, mercenaries, opportunists, and immoral...Hemming, while in a position to furnish information, frequently alters, distorts, and changes the information to suit his fancy."
