CIA Records Project Passes 100,000 Pages

The MFF's CIA Records Project has passed the 100,000 page mark. Combined with the Russ Holmes Work File documents, almost half of the entire set of CIA records in the JFK Collection are now available for browsing and searching. These documents, many of them declassified only in the late 1990s, contain a wealth of detail on anti-Castro operations, several defectors including Nosenko, the Oswald trip to Mexico City, the Garrison investigation, and many other topics, including the sometimes-bumpy relations between the CIA and the Warren Commission, Church Committee, and the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

The documents are provided courtesy of the Assassination Archives and Research Center, which acquired them in settlement of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit initiated in 1981 by Mark Allen.

Most of these documents are organized in these sub-categories of the MFF'S CIA files:

  • Oswald 201 File - The CIA's file on Lee Harvey Oswald, which was expanded into its JFK assassination file after 11-22-63. Over 170 documents; much more to come.
  • Miscellaneous CIA Series - CIA documents from various departments, such as the Deputy Director for Plans (DDP) and Office of General Counsel (OGC). Over 900 documents.

A related sub-collection of these documents consists of notes taken by HSCA staffers while they reviewed CIA documents (the notes were not permitted to leave CIA facilities). Over 800 documents.

Check the What's New section of the home page for links to interesting documents recently added to the collection.
