PDF Download Fees

While access to all of our document pages remains free of charge, the Mary Ferrell Foundation endeavors to sustain its work by charging membership fees for access to our advanced search tools, and now through access to PDF versions of the documents in our archive.

Fees for PDF access are based on membership types:

Non-Member: - No access to PDF. You must be logged in as a member in order to access PDF documents.

Basic Member - With a free basic membership, access to PDF documents is $5 for documents up to 25 pages, and $10 for documents larger than 25 pages.

Supporting Member - As a paid supporting member, access to PDF documents of 25 pages or less is free. For documents larger than 25 pages, a fee of $5 is charged.

Professional Member - A benefit of our new Pro membership is that access to PDF versions of all documents is free. This rate also applies to Institutional Memberships.

Downloading PDFs

What is It?

The newest feature of the MFF web site is the ability for our members to access versions of our documents in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF files may be read offline or printed.

Depending on the size of the document and your membership type, this access may be free or may incur a charge. See the sidebar at the right side of this page for details.

How Does It Work?

ONE: Be a member of the Mary Ferrell Foundation.

TWO: In the archive, click the PDF Version tab when viewing a document.

THREE: Download and View (if Professional or Institutional Member, or Supporting member and short document) or Add to Cart.

The following steps are only relevant when PDFs are added to your cart.

FOUR: Checkout.

FIVE: Access in My PDFs and Download.

Details

Step One

You must be a member of the Mary Ferrell Foundation and logged in.

Step Two

When viewing any document in our Document Archive, you are presented with three tabs: Document View, Table of Contents , and a third new option, PDF Version, as shown below:

Click on PDF Version.

Step Three

Upon clicking "PDF Version" tab, the options you see will differ depending on whether there is a charge, based on the size of the document and your membership type (see sidebar at right for details).

If the document is free of charge:

You will see an Adobe PDF icon with a link entited Download this document next to it. Click to download and view the document. Please note that large documents may take several minutes to download, even on a high speed internet connection.

Please note that depending on your browser configuration, the PDF may be viewed in your browser window or in an offline PDF Reader. This project is designed to enable offline reading of our material, and the optimum vehicle for usage is the offline PDF Reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader or Mac OS X's "Preview."

If the document requires payment: In this case you will be presented with the following options:

View Membership Options - For information on upgrading your membership and thereby accessing PDFs at lesser charge or no cost.
Return to Document View - If you decide to not purchase and download a PDF.
Add to Cart - Add to your shopping cart. You may add more PDFs to the cart before paying for them - see steps 4 and 5.

Step Four

PDFs requiring purchase are added to your shopping cart. In your cart, you may also add books from the MFF Store. When you have selected the items you wish to purchase, and are ready to check out, follow the onscreen instructions.

Once your payment information is entered and accepted, an acknowledgment page will appear.

Step Five

To access your PDFs, visit My Membership and click on My PDFs in the right-hand sidebar.

Under "Status," click on "Available," and your PDF download will happen immediately.

Purchased PDFs must be downloaded within three months from the purchase date.

Please note that depending on your browser configuration, the PDF may be viewed in your browser window or in an offline PDF Reader. You MUST be a member of the Mary Ferrell Foundation to download PDFs.
